The American Debt Ceiling is the biggest thing in the news right now. How much should we increase it; how much should we cut spending and how much should we increase taxes? The good old boy system in Washington, D.C. wants all the money and power they can get. Compare the debt ceiling to the limit on your credit card - the big exception is the the government sets the limit on itself. The politicians have robbed the social security system and medicare until there is nothing to back them.
Now is the time to change directions and lower the Debt Ceiling. Before 1971, we were on the gold standard and had a debt of $400 billion. Last year's debt increase was 4 times what the total debt was in 1971 and nothing improved for America. Why can't these politicians understand that you can't spend your way to prosperity? Federal Programs are created for one purpose - to buy votes so that their creators can stay in office.
What would be the effect of lowering the debt ceiling over time? The economy would be rebuilt on a solid economic foundation and the value of the dollar would rise. American small bussiness would see an increase in funding and start hiring - producing more American produced goods. Government would have to cut its employee's pay and benefits - they make twice as much as the private sector. F.D.R. cut their pay and benefits by 25% during the Great Depression. The Liberals claim he was a genius so follow his lead. Make the government determine just what the is cost of the ever increasing regulations that they pass. Make the government cut the many duplication of services that they have. In other words, CUT THE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT. Many of the things that the Federal Government considers to be Federal issues are better handled locally on the state, county or city level. NUMBER ONE would be education.
The government should be about what is best for America and not about what is the best way to get re-elected. The American Dream is being destroyed by corrupt and unethical politicians with their own medical and retirement systems and laws that govern the people and not the government and its employees.
